What Do I Need to Complete FAFSA?

Q: I have heard that FAFSA can be complicated and even can take longer to complete if you do not have the proper items. What documents will I need to complete the FAFSA?

A: FAFSA is actuality not that complicated at all (it is fairly straight forward), so do not be worried. Completing FAFSA is in your best interest when it comes to financial aid for college, and you are correct that having the proper documents will surely speed up the process. You can find a list of the items you will need on the FAFSA website, but I will go ahead and provide you with a basic checklist below:

Basic FAFSA Checklist

1. Your Social Security Number or your alien registration or permanent resident card (if you are not a U.S. citizen).

2. Your driver’s license (if you have one).

3. Your W-2 Forms from the previous year and other records of money earned.

4. Your (and your spouse’s, if you are married) Federal Income Tax Return.

5. Your Parent’s Federal Income Tax Return (if you are a dependent student).

6. Your current bank statements

7. Your current business and investment mortgage information, business and farm records, stock, bond and other investment records.
