Q: Looking for student loans for students with bad credit, and wondering where should I start?
A: Many college students suffer from lack of credit history, or even poor credit history. The good news is there are no credit check student loans out there. The first place you will want to start is www.fafsa.gov. FAFSA (The Free Application for Federal Student Aid) will allow you to apply for certain federal student loans, which are not based upon credit. You only need to file one FAFSA per academic school year in order to apply for all types of federal student loans and grants. Once you file a FAFSA you will receive your SAR (Student Aid Report), which will indicate which federal student loans, and grants you qualified for and at what amounts.
Should you still need additional loan funds for college after you have exhausted your federal financial aid options, you could consider a private student loan. However, be aware that securing a private student loan without a cosigner that is creditworthy (if your credit is bad) will most likely be a difficult task. You do have additional options beyond FAFSA for cutting your college costs. For more information please view Private Student Loans Without Cosigner and 89 Financial Aid for College Tips.
