Private Student Loans Without a Co-Signer

Obtaining Private Student Loans Without a Co-Signer is a student loan topic that is often brought up. Many students are “in the boat” of not having enough credit or having bad credit, which prevents them from securing some student loans without a co-signers help. When we speak of student loans without a co-signer, often times we are referring to private student loans since the federal student loan program does offer student loans which are not based on credit history.

Where the problem remains for many students out there, is that the amount of money they receive from federal student loans is simply not enough to cover the costs of college expenses. The most logical next place to turn in order to make up the difference between what you have received in federal aid and what you’ll need for college is private student loans.

Private student loans, unlike federal student loans are offered by private lenders, and similar to most any other type of loan offered by private lenders, they are going to require a credit check to assure them that you are a “good risk” for the loan.

If you are “in the boat” of needing private student loans but do not have a co-signer, you are not alone. Unfortunately as of now there is really no way around securing a private student loan without a co-signer if you have bad credit or no credit at all. Any lenders stating “you don’t need a cosigner or need good credit” in order to obtain a private student loan, should be approached with caution. Chances are you will take the time to apply for the loan, only to get a message stating “your application has been denied”.

For those students out there who are in need of more money for college (and are unable to obtain private student loans) you are going to have to get creative. Visit the Alternatives to Student Loans Section on our site for more information.
