The FIRE’s Freedom In Academia Scholarship, is an essay based scholarship opportunity offering one first place winner a $5,000 college scholarship, one second place winner a $2,500 college scholarship, and five runners-up a $1000 college scholarship. The FIRE’s Freedom In Academia Scholarship is open to all current high school seniors, who will be graduating in the upcoming year, and who will be enrolling in an accredited college, university, or educational institution.
FIRE’s Freedom In Academia Scholarship applicants will be asked to compose a 800 to 1000 word essay that answers the following question: Why is free speech important at our nation’s colleges and universities? Applicants are asked to use examples from two videos located on FIRE’s Freedom In Academia Scholarship website, and discuss how the universities in the videos violated the students rights, and why these violations are incompatible with higher education.
