Around the summer months a popular topic for many college students regarding financial aid, is if financial aid for summer classes is available? When it comes to filing a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for your federal financial aid, you only file a FAFSA once per academic year. There is not a need, nor an option to file a FAFSA for financial aid for summer classes.
When you receive your financial aid award package results from FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for a given academic year, that is the amount you are awarded for that particular academic school year. Should you decide to enroll in summer classes, your financial aid award will not increase. In some cases, some schools may set aside financial aid for summer classes (or summer semester), but be aware that often times the schools financial aid for summer classes is (typically) limited.
If you are in need of financial aid for summer classes, the first thing you will want to do is contact your schools financial aid office or department, and ask about their financial aid options for summer classes. If you know in advance that you will need to take summer classes, you will want to contact your schools financial aid department as soon as possible. There may be additional financial aid forms you will need to file with the school, if they offer financial aid for summer classes available.
