Q: Do Student Loans Without a Co-Signer Exist? How do I get a student loan without a co-signer?
A: This is a student loan question we receive ALL the time. First, let me start off by saying that though student loans are different then borrowing money for other types of loans, borrowing money is borrowing money (no matter how you cut it) and in most cases having no credit, bad credit, or the lack of someone who will cosign for you will hurt your chances of securing some student loans.
Okay now for starters you can apply for the Stafford student loan. Stafford student loans come in two different types - subsidized or unsubsidized, (aka: who pays the interest while you’re a student). A Subsidized Stafford student loan is for students who have low-income, no credit, or no cosigner… if you fall into one or more of those categories, the chances are good for you to succeed in getting this student loan. Keep in mind that amounts awarded in a Stafford student loans are often not that much, regardless it is secured money for college.
Now depending on your credit history and score, you may not need a cosigner for your student loans at all, many are under the perception that you automatically NEED a cosigner for student loans, this is not true. You can secure private student loans for college if you are in good credit standing.
