Do Student Loans Show Up on My Credit Report?

student loansQ: I am trying to buy a house and was just wondering, will my student loans show up on my credit report or will my student loans debt not factor into my credit?

A: Your student loans are in fact loans and therefore, “yes” your student loans (both private student loans and/or federally guaranteed student loans) will show up on your credit report.

Even if you are still currently enrolled in college, and not making your student loan repayments your loans will still show up on your credit report, they will simply be designated as deferred.

Even though there are much worse kinds of debt to be in then a debt for furthering your education, it is a common misconception that student loan debt is somehow “not real debt”, when it in fact is very real.
